Photography & Digital Manipulation By Haylee Massaro

Lipstick Sky By Haylee Massaro

I am an English teacher living and working in Pittsburgh, PA. In the last few years, I have been experimenting both with writing, photography and digital manipulation. My written work has appeared in ‘Better than Starbucks: Poetry Magazine’, ‘Five 2 One Magazine’, and in ‘The Opiate’ magazine. My photography and visual art can be seen in ‘Ink in Thirds’ magazine, ‘805 Lit & Art Journal’ and the ‘Virtual Artists Collective’.

At one time elusive, photography is now something that so many have access to create, from Instagram feeds to Facebook posts, and I like to play around with digital manipulation and filters to play off of the ubiquitous nature of Instagram Art. I rotate between using my smartphone and my DSLR camera to capture images. I layer photos and use digital manipulation techniques to get my desired effect/look. Minimalism often inspires the arrangement and composition of my photographs. However, I used a layered arrangement in LipStick Sky which takes two photographs that on their own are minimal, but when placed together and manipulated, the look is more ‘maximalistic’ or gaudy.
